We are going to talk today a little about what the word has to say in regards to lending, financial debt, and loan repayment! If you every wanted to know what the bible has to say about these subjects then you are in luck! The bible has a few things to say about lending, financial debt, and loan repayment that you might want to consider taking a look at! Without further-a-due. Here we go! We start out with the first part of this three part volume in the series; Lending!
Lending:
Before I begin, I’d like to first give some gratitude to the folks at Prosper for helping me out when I was in most need. The loan that I received was way way bellow its projected interest rate and I was more than thankful for that. Needless to say I would recommend Prosper to anyone looking to barrow or lend money. I was blessed enough to help a good friend get a loan and got a ridiculously great rate for her. If you’d like to join Prosper, you can do so by clicking the Prosper Advertisment! We could both get free money from it! So go ahead and sign up whether you are going to make a loan or barrow.
Now, what does the bible say about lending?
The bible instructs us not to take advantage of people in need by imposing a high loan interest rate burden.
25 “If you lend money to any of My people who are poor among you, you shall not be like a moneylender to him; you shall not charge him interest. 26 If you ever take your neighbor’s garment as a pledge, you shall return it to him before the sun goes down. 27 For that is his only covering, it is his garment for his skin. What will he sleep in? And it will be that when he cries to Me, I will hear, for I am gracious. -Exodus 22: 25-27
From Exodus 22: 25-27, you can see that if we lend money to our less fortunate brethren, we should not be like a money lender and charge interest on this loan. From this I grasp that if I were to have made the decision, whatever I base it on, to lend a member of my church money , then I would do it and not burden my brother by imposing interest. However, we also that those who barrow should return what was lent promptly.
7 “If among you, one of your brothers should become poor, in any of your towns within your land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart or shut your hand against your poor brother, 8 but you shall open your hand to him and lend him sufficient for his need, whatever it may be. -Deuteronomy 15: 7-8.
Remember, giving is an important part of being in the kingdom of God but it is also very instrumental in your growth spiritually and financially. We will get to this later in the Series. For now, let it suffice, to know that you must open your heart to your brother. Careful in being quick to judge. If you can give a helping hand do so!
By His Grace!
