Persistence could save you moolah!

Image from Onemansblog.com My father, not so long ago, returned from a trip to Mexico. On his return, he received his Nextel bill, he was surprised to see that his usually payment of @ $80.00 or so had changed to about $857.00 over the small period of time he was gone. My dad had applied a certain international package to his cell phone, the charges were unexpected! Unfortunately, this story isn’t about his trip but about the persistence it sometimes takes to get people to do something; motivate them, if you will, to do the right thing!

We called Nextel and proceeded to engage in a conversation with the customer service representative. She told us that we had to pay the amount and that it would be impossible to refund the money even though we had called a week prior to the trip about the international package that would save my father a ton of moolah! Now, here we were arguing to some person on the other end of the line about something we know we called in to do and that they had failed to activate on the account, and that’s who’s fault? Certainly not mine nor my father’s fault! I decided to hangup and try again.

The second time around the same thing happen to us. They were unwilling to help us out and I got frustrated. I then asked to speak to a manager. I could have saved myself 15 minutes by not talking to that manager that then tried to run our old debit card on file to cover the charge! Are you kidding me?! I told him not to charge a cent on that card lest we might enter into a very nasty spiral of accusations including the use of an Attorney! I hung up!

So, I tried again! This time I was met on the other end by a very kind person, I tried not to sound angry. I told her what had happen gave her names and she, like nothing, decided that she would refund the charges and apologized for the behavior of the customer service representatives! “My God! Thank you!” I replied! I was so happy i nearly jump and clicked my heals! Needless to say, everything worked out but I don’t think I would have gotten far unless I tried and tried and tried again! Come to think of it, if my memory service me right, she was a higher end person for Nextel that came through for my father and I ( I think it was her birthday too! :D)

To whom ever it was on that phone I say ” Thank you and you are one of the good ones!”

We have, since then, cancelled our contract with Nextel and have switched to T-mobile! WoW… Just Wow! I love Tmobile! Wanna guess why? :D

Respectfully,

Tony Tovar
